A Walk in the Park – Markham Park, FL

December 7, 2010 by libertatemamo 8 Comments

Late afternoon glow at Markham

It’s just started to get chilly here in South Florida. Now, by chilly I mean rocketing down to 40 degrees (~3 degrees celsius) which is enough to freeze my very wimpy temperature sensibilities. In practical terms that means the dog has been bounding around like an excited Impala, and I’ve been forced to change out the flip-flops (or, at the least, wear socks in the flip flops). But the best part of it all is the clear, crisp light and walks in the park.

You see, we’re wintering in Markham Park, FL and although it’s only about a half hour north of Miami, it feels miles away in spirit. The park has 665-acres of open space intersprinkled with lakes, mountain biking and hidden hikes. It’s a gorgeous gem of a green oasis in an otherwise endless concrete jungle. We’ve been perfectly peaceful here, and thoroughly enjoying the space.

A little splash of color in the grass

So, this afternoon, as the sun was stretching its last rays across the grass in a long warm glow, the Impala and us went for a long walk to enjoy the outdoors and capture some of the colors. Just a bit of fun with the camera, some green and open space…in other words…photographers bliss. While Paul and Polly were romping around in the grass, I was on my stomach happily engaged with the smaller things. And that bit of fun, I just had to share! Enjoy!

Funny you : tip toeing around the 40 degree thing. I spent a glorious winter at training in South Carolina in the Air Force and was amazed they had 2 weeks of winter in January. Then spent the rest of the 7 months there, jogging and at the beach. It was incredible.

I know, I know…I’m such a wimp when it comes to cold! Hard to believe I come from Viking stock sometimes 🙂
