Campground Video – Armitage County Park, Eugene, OR

May 13, 2016 by libertatemamo 23 Comments

You knew it was coming, so here it is. A video review of our favorite place to park “the beast” in Eugene, OR.

As you already know we come thro’ Eugene every year for RV service/maintenance (and to eat and drink beer, and stock-up, and go to the awesome farmers market etc.), and this is where we prefer to stay. Not only is this a GREAT park in a GREAT location, but it may be one of the nicest county parks we’ve ever been to. Can you say huge, level sites? Lots of green? Even an off-leash doggie area?! Like all the great places though, it’s become rather popular over the years so booking ahead is definitely recommended.

If you would like to read the full written review click HERE, but if you’d prefer to skip that and just see our mugs (and doggie) tell you about on video click away: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo44BVjzrh8

Our RetiCAM holder and grip
Our RetiCAM holder and grip

By the way many of you have asked what camera we’re using to create these videos. We tried several different cameras and in the end Paul’s iPhone 6 really gave use the best video/audio, plus it was (by far) the easiest to use. So that’s what we’ve been using for all our vids.

The only “extras” we’ve bought are a little RetiCAM hand grip and RetiCAM smartphone tripod holder so that we can more easily hold the phone. We usually use both pieces together (for our “mobile” videos), but we can also use the tripod holder separately on my regular camera tripod (in case we just want to set-up the phone for a stationary video in the future). They’re super sturdy and hold the phone very securely. We’ve been extremely happy with both of these purchases.

Other than that we have no other “stuff”. That’s our entire video set-up!

What a wonderful review! Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. We’ll be heading to Oregon later this year and this campground will definitely be on our go to list.

Oregon has such great parks. We stayed in Grants Pass along the river and loved watching the jet boats. Nice video except you are making me wish we were there and where we are is pretty darn good.

Valley of the Rogue State Park? That’s a lovely spot! We only stayed 1 night there passing through a few years back so I didn’t get a chance to do a review, but we really, really liked it.

Thank you so much for your videos and blog. The’re very informative and both of you are the salt of the earth.

If it’s not too personal, Nina, where were you born in Denmark?

Paul, thanks for your investment blog. It give me confidence to know that my strategy of buying an underlying dividend stock/ETF and then buying puts and selling calls is not too crazy.

    Keep up the good work!

Yes, I’m a full-blown bona fide Dane. 100% Danish through at least 4 generations, maybe more 🙂 My parents left Denmark when I was 4 however, so I was brought up Internationally and lost the Danish accent (I still speak the language).

Just a quick thanks! This post was very timely. We had scheduled our first annual service at Cummins in Coburg, as well as a tow bar installation nearby for June. We were thinking about where we’d stay for the few days we’d be in Eugene when I read this post on Armitage and quickly made a reservation. Very much enjoy all your posts but this one came in quite handy! Great job you guys!!

Glad we could be of help! By the way, in case you didn’t know Cummins Coberg has ~8 basic hookup sites (water/electric) at their facility which are free to use for folks having work done. So, you can take advantage of this if you’re getting your service done. We typically park at one of these the night before our service, and then go to Armitage the afternoon after our service is complete. Armitage is only a few miles from Cummins, so it’s very easy access too.

Nice review Nina! Brings back memories, we met you there maybe 2011 and you told us about your blog. We have been back many times to Armitage and have enjoyed your blog as well! Last time we were there we saw an osprey nest on that top of that railroad bridge… Two tips.. Hop Valley Brewing Co.. great happy hour and real close to the campground. Steelhead Brewing Co for a pizza and a pint. Also if you get stuck and can’t get in the county park, you can overnight at the mall parking lot by the river. Free also nice in that there is a bike path that goes for miles on both sides of the river at that point.

All excellent tips! We’ve been to Hop Valley, but haven’t been to Steelhead. That’s on the list for next time! And yes, the free spot at the Mall is great for a few days. Another fabulous location. For those interested I’ve got a review of that spot here:

I have just subscribed to your reviews and I LOVE THEM!!! I am planning on taking to the road in a year and I am taking notes on campgrounds from your reviews. Thank you so much for what you do!!

I need to know your dogs name and at the Armitage Campground in Oregon if the German Shepherd played with your dog in the doggy park section.? Your pup was so anxious to go meet that dog!

Our doggies name is Polly. She didn’t get a chance to play w/ that Shepherd after all (they left just as we got down to the park), but they did get a good sniff hello.

Thanks! We did not know about Armitage County Park. Whenever we go to Eugene we stay at Deerwood RV, but we’ll give Armitage a try in our fall trip.

Have you been to Silverfalls State Park outside of Silverton OR? Great waterfalls. We were there a few weeks ago and the falls are flowing at a wonderful volume.

Thanks for your videos. They are great!

Silverfalls is one of the state parks we have not yet been to. It’s been on our list for a while tho’ so hope to make it at some point.

Are the fees the same in the off season? What are you paying at these pretty parks in Oregon? Thank you

Depends on the park. I detail fees in both the video and the written campground reviews for every single park we go to. As an example Armitage costs $30/night. Oregon State Parks run anywhere from $19-$30/night. You can see a full list of OR State Park Fees here: http://oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=visit.dsp_rates

Thank you for that. I thought maybe there was a big difference between on and off season. The only difference is making reservations, and the amount of people.

Is there a particular site that you prefer? We have a 45′ motorhome and just want to be sure we can easily get to our site without snagging any trees, if that is a problem. The sites look plenty long enough.

Oh you’ll have NO problem here at all. All the sites will fit you no problem, and trees are well trimmed here. I’d just chose your site based on whether you need satellite TV and/or prefer sun (or shade). The park website actually has a really good description of each site including shade & satellite availability, so just use that to make your choice.
