RV Park Review – Atlantic Oaks Campground, Eastham MA

A cozy, forested and very quiet RV park in the middle of the long “outer arm” section of Cape Cod MA

1. Site quality = 3.5/5
   Good set of sites here with just a few dings. Interior roads are gravel and all sites are hard gravel pull-throughs arranged side-by-side in 12 long rows. The park is heavily forested with mature trees and good vegetation (including between sites) so there is lots of shade and it feels “cozy” with good privacy throughout. Most sites are full hookups (either 30A or 50A, there’s a selection) plus cable TV with a select few non-hookup and tent sites. The majority are nicely long, flat and wide with nice “sitting areas” containing picnic table and bench. Only ding is that some sites do vary in size & flatness. Biggest & flattest sites are towards the beginning of camp (rows A-E) whereas sites towards the rear (F-K) are on a slight hill and so are somewhat more unlevel. Also the interior trees do make for slightly tighter roads and difficult access to *some* of the sites, so I’d say only a sub-section can accommodate larger RVs*. Lastly a select few sites nearest the entrance of the campground (around A1-A5, B1-B4, C1-C3 plus the tenting area behind the check-in office) DO get road noise. Sites further back however are VERY quiet and the heavy trees completely protect from the (often furious) Cape Cod winds. We had a corner site B8 which was huge and very quiet indeed, but non-trivial to get into and out of (tight tree placement made for some branch scraping and a very tight entrance/exit!). We loved the site once we were in it though.
   *NOTE/ This Campground has online booking, but for bigger rigs (> 40 ft) I recommend calling the campground to ask about easiest sites to get into. Heavy trees do make for difficult access at some of the sites and the campground hosts are very friendly and know the site layout well. Book ahead!
2. Facilities = 3/5
   Flush toilets and showers here. Individual walk-in showers with decent water pressure, separate bench area for your clothes and adjustable temp. Main ding is that the facilities are on the older size (older tub with those those annoying spray type shower heads). Showers/toilets were impeccably clean however. Also (interesting twist) they play music from the radio in the showers, so you get to shower to music something I’ve never before encountered at an RV Park (it was quite pleasant actually). NO dump station.
3. Amenities = 4/5
   Decent set of amenities here. There is a nice laundromat with new machines, a camp store, game room & lounge area, playground (for the kiddies) and horseshoes. There is also on-site propane and free WiFi which worked decently well while we were here. No swimming pool however.
4. Location = 5/5
   This is a really good location to explore Cape Cod. You are right in the middle of the long “outer arm” of the Cape, only ~3 miles from the famous Nauset Lighthouse and only ~1/2 mile from the National Seashore Visitor Center where you can access miles of beautiful Cape Cod beach. In addition you are right ON the ~26 mile Cape Cod Rail Bike trail and only ~20 miles from Provincetown (P-town). Nearby Eastham & Orleans have options for grocery, eating and shopping.
5. Pet friendliness = 5/5
   Great place for doggie. Good space in camp including a nice fenced-in off-leash area (behind check-in office) as well as a well-worn walking trail around the outside of the campground. In addition you are right next to the ~26 mile Cape Cod Rail Bike trail and only ~5 mins drive from Coast Guard Beach where leashed dogs are allowed on the beach beyond the lifeguard-protected sections. Poo bags provided several places around camp.

BONUS ALERT: Camp just minutes from Cape Cod National Seashore!

Summary: We chose this campground as our base to explore Cape Cod and it turned out to be a great choice. It’s a heavily forested campground just off Rte 6 located right in the the middle of the Cape Cod “finger”. Sites are large, wide hard-packed gravel pull-throughs and full hookups (either 30A or 50A) plus Cable TV and nice “sitting areas” containing picnic table and fire pit. Sites nearest the entrance are largest with sites in the rear somewhat more unlevel and smaller. Biggest draw is that it’s located in mature forest with good vegetation throughout which means good shade and a cozy, quiet and decently private feel at most of the sites. Plus you are protected from the often furious Cape Cod winds. The heavy trees do make for somewhat tight interior roads however, and difficult access to *some* of the sites (only a sub-set is suited for big rigs IMO). In addition sites closest to the main entrance (one tenting area plus sites around A1-A5, B1-B4, C1-C3 do get road noise, but the rest of the campground is nicely quiet and relaxed. This is a popular seasonal campground and many sites seem to be occupied by seasonal folks, so there are fewer sites for transient travelers (book well ahead!!). We had a lovely, large site on the corner (B8) which was non-trivial to get into (and out of), but which we really enjoyed once we were situated. Location was excellent and great for exploring the Cape. The campground is only ~3 miles from the famous Nauset Lighthouse and only ~1/2 mile from the National Seashore Visitor Center where you can access miles of beautiful (and dog-friendly) Cape Cod beach. In addition you are right ON the ~26 mile Cape Cod Rail Bike trail, close to Eastham & Orleans (groceries, eating etc.) and only ~20 miles from Provincetown (P-town). We were here in the off-season so rates were significantly lower and the campground a little less full. Overall a super friendly campground with a very nice quiet and relaxed feel. We truly enjoyed the stay.

This is a popular campground and many sites are seasonally occupied, so BOOK AHEAD if you plan to stay here.

Extra Info: FREE on-site WiFi which worked decently well while we were here. Stable, good cellphone signal. Verizon 2 bars LTE, ATT 2 bars LTE & T-Mobile worked too (1 bar LTE)!  Total ~100 sites. Site costs vary depending on season. 50A FHU (plus cable TV) sites are $74/night (high season), $59/night (off-season), 30A FHU (plus cable TV) sites are $68/night (high season), $53/night (low season) while no hookup sites are $45/night (high season), $30/night (off-season). On-site propane. Weekends in July and August require a three night minimum reservation. NO dump station.

Extra, Extra Info: OTHER CAMPING: There is plenty of other camping on Cape Cod including public camping at Nickerson State Park on the “Elbow” of Cape Cod ($35/night, 35 ft max RV size), cheap boondocking on the sand at Race Point on the very northern tip of the Cape  (only $75 for 7 days, but you must conform to strict equipment & tire specifications). Plus lots of other private parks.
